One example to consider is the Ralph C. Youngberg Memorial Tournament / Endowment. The Youngberg family along with lettermen Gig Brummell and Fred Chreist organized and held a Golf Tournament three years in row in memory of the late Ralph C. Youngberg. Proceeds from the golf tournament have established a permanent endowment at UNM. The endowment is specified for scholarships for UNM golfers.
Hall of Honor ...
We Honor Great Athletes and Great People!
The UNM Athletic Hall of Honor was founded in 1986 and operates under the auspices of the UNM Alumni Lettermen’s Association in cooperation with the UNM Alumni Association and Athletic Department. The Hall of Honor was established to perpetuate the mission of intercollegiate athletics at the University of New Mexico; to promote a sense of pride among Alumni Lettermen, the University and the community; to preserve UNM’s athletic history and traditions; and to recognize annually, by public ceremony, qualified individuals, groups and athletic teams from UNM – and enshrine them in the Hall of Honor.
In recognition of their achievements, inductees – chosen for having achieved extraordinary distinction as athletes and citizens – are awarded a Hall of Honor ring and a commemorative plaque, and their picture is permanently displayed at UNM’s Wall of Athletic Honor at the UNM Basketball Arena – the Pit. Any proceeds derived from the UNM Hall of Honor activities are placed in the Alumni Lettermen’s Scholarship fund so that deserving athletes whose varsity eligibility has expired may complete work toward a degree.
Tailgates ... Join in the Pre-Game Fun!
Alumni Lettermen tailgates are a great way to reunite with old friends, support the Lobos and enjoy good food and drink. This is where you know you'll always find a tasty brat with green chile and plenty of hot dogs. Meet us under the red Lettermen NM flag at every home football game! All tailgates start approximately 3 hours prior to kickoff.
- Sponsorships: We are always looking for tailgate sponsors. Sponsorships help pay for tailgate expenses which, in turn, helps fund the George Brooks 5th Year Scholarship Program. Thanks to our 2010 tailgate sponsors!
- Volunteers: The Lettermen are always looking for volunteers to lend a helping-hand at our tailgates. Give a howl if you can help-out!

Get to know your fellow Lobo athletes!
The Student Lettermen Association unites UNM varsity athletes for social, community and networking reasons. Get to know athletes from different sports, away from the track, the field, the pool. Get to know Alumni Lettermen by assisting in their activities, such as the Hall of Honor dinner, tailgate events, the UNM Coaches and Senior Athletes reception, and the membership campaign. The Alumni Lettermen’s Association sponsors the Student Lettermen’s Association.
The Student Lettermen participate in numerous community service and social activities. The choices vary from year to year but include:
- Run for Relief: Student Lettermen host this annual fundraiser to benefit children with cancer. Past proceeds have benefited the UNM Health Sciences Pediatric Oncology department. Students solicit sponsors who pledge donations according to the number of miles run. The student athletes from various sports form teams and compete with one another.
- UNM Spring Storm: Student Lettermen join other UNM students, faculty, and staff to get involved in a one-day service project benefiting university and/or the city of Albuquerque. In 2009 they facilitated the adoption of over 600 dogs and cats with the Albuquerque Animal Humane Society.
- Roadrunner Food Bank: Student athletes stuff boxes with food, and package and organize food products at Roadrunner Food bank several times throughout the semester.
- City of Albuquerque Open Space Cleanup: Student Lettermen join forces with the City of Albuquerque Open Space to work on projects such as trail maintenance and cleanup.
- Albuquerque Rescue Mission: Student Lettermen serve food at the Albuquerque Rescue Mission, a shelter for the homeless.
- Egg Hunt: Student Lettermen organize an Egg Hunt for children at the UNM Duck Pond each spring.
- Spring Social: Student Lettermen select an event such as a dinner at a local restaurant putt-putt, bowling or hiking. They recognize the outstanding leaders of the year and choose their upcoming officers.
