ASSOCIATION FACTS
Who:
The UNM Alumni Lettermen’s Association (UNMALA) is comprised of 2,800 alumni letterwinners-all of whom have lettered in a sport and graduated from UNM. The UNMALA has a full-time executive director who administers all programs and events.
What:
The UNMALA is a chapter of the UNM Alumni Association and operates under a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) status. The lettermen have been a part of UNM’s athletic tradition and by being a member of the UNMALA they continue to have a major influence on athletics’ future. A formal Board of Directors and many committees help to perpetuate the future of the organization.
Why:
The purpose of the UNMALA is to promote and enhance varsity athletics and higher education at UNM: 1) by providing fifth year commemorative athletic scholarships; 2) by establishing and sponsoring a network between alumni an current student athletes through the Student Lettermen’s Association; 3) by hosting special events, such as the UNM Senior Salute Reception, the UNM Athletic Hall of Honor Awards Banquet, Homecoming Social, tailgate activities, 4) by assisting athletes in career development.
When:
A membership drive is conducted each year in the early spring. Dues paying members enjoy the satisfaction of helping student athletes pursue their education.
