The UNM Alumni Association Citizenship Award is intended to recognize endeavor, helpfulness, good spirit, and cooperation, rather than to cap outstanding achievement.
Many students work diligently in UNM extracurricular activities, yet do not head a major organization, become a queen or athlete of the year, or serve as chairman for a big event.
They may miss an honor society by a single point or so.
Their names may appear on the rosters of several organizations, and they give evidence of willingly participating in many projects and activities.
They are "known" and have many friends, and we believe that such a student, after four years at UNM, totals more true significance and deserves more praise than the individuals who are involved in very specialized fields.
The award is given to a select number of seniors who have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills and have provided continued service to the University and the community.
