Congressional Reception
DC Alumni on Capitol Hill!
Approximately 180 Washington DC alumni and friends mingled with members of the New Mexico Congressional delegation and their staffs at a reception in the Senate Office Building. Alumni Association President Ruth Schifani welcomed the crowd, including DC Chapter President Larry Harris, and introduced UNM Vice President for Research Julia Fulghum. In turn, Vice President Fulghum introduced US Representative Martin Heinrich who spoke to the group. Earlier in the day, Rep. Heinrich had congratulated the Lobo men's basketball team on the House floor, ending his words with "Everyone's a Lobo! Woof! Woof! Woof!"

Board of Directors Meeting
Setting Our Course!
After an early morning tour of the new UNM Cancer Center building, the Alumni Association Board of Directors sat down to learn and work at the Hotel Albuquerque (since their usual Hodgin Hall quarters currently lack furniture, equipment, and even a few walls!). News of UNM, the UNM Foundation, UNM's budget and ASUNM augmented regular committee reports (Finance, Young Alumni, Lobos for Legislation and Awards). The 24 board members in attendance also learned about the OSHER Lifelong Learning Institute – the Alumni Association is a partner of this continuing education project – and plans for new housing on UNM's south campus.

Friday Fractals
Young Alumni Explore Friday Fractals
Young Alumni recently explored the world of fractals at the NM Museum of Natural History and Science. It was a mind blowing experience as they journeyed through infinitely complex patterns in nature. Those in attendance gathered afterward for some social networking. First Friday Fractals has certainly become one of the new favorite events of young alums and will certainly be scheduled again later in the year.

Thanks to our Legislators
UNM Alumni Thank Legislators at Annual Reception
The Alumni Association welcomed 275 people, including 48 legislators, Lt. Governor Diane Denish, LFC Director David Abbey and other key leaders, to our annual reception at the La Fonda Hotel. During the reception, UNM's leadership, students, faculty, staff and alumni expressed their support for UNM and its priorities. UNM alumni presented each legislator with a beautiful book, "New Mexico, Past and Present."
January 25 was also "UNM Day at The Capitol" with UNM students, faculty and staff promoting UNM and various programs in the Rotunda. The College of Fine Arts entertained the crowd with flamenco dancers, the UNM Brass Quintet and the Jazz Choir.
