Campus Howls With Students

There's a sense of renewed energy and excitement on campus as students return in throngs and the semester gets underway. Best of luck to the class of 2012 --nearly 3,000 strong--and all our returning students!

UNM Alumni participated in Welcome Back Days the first week of school, serving nearly 4,200 hotdogs to campus denizens.

Student Trailblazers Lead the Pack

Service is an essential element of Lobo pride. Just ask the student Trailblazers who serve as ambassadors for the UNM Alumni Association and the University of New Mexico. They are conducting another Tuition Scholarship Raffle, which will provide in-state undergraduate tuition for the Spring 2008 semester. Tickets are $3 or 4 for $10. The 2007 Spring winner was sophomore, Molly O'Meara. For more information, contact Sue MacEachen at (505) 277-9088.

Woof, Woof, Woof! Come Home for Homecoming 2007

"Everyone's a Lobo" for this year's Homecoming and we hope to see you there. A week of reunion activities leads up to the Saturday football game where we'll cheer on the Lobos at University Stadium as they bulldoze the BYU Cougars.

Inaugural Activities for UNM President Span Full Week

David J. Schmidly will be officially installed as the University of New Mexico's 20th president during a ceremony Sunday, October 7, at 2:30 p.m. in Popejoy Hall. The public is invited to the ceremony and the reception that follows at University House. Reserved seating tickets will be available at UNM ticket offices September 17.

The UNM president's inauguration goes beyond the installation ceremony. A weeklong series of events will showcase UNM's contributions in the areas of community service, sustainable environments, health policy, research and innovation, athletics, arts and culture. The theme is "Connect," which illustrates President Schmidly's commitment to build and enhance connections between the University and communities.

Zia Awards Announced

The University of New Mexico Alumni Association will honor the 2007 Zia Award recipients at the All-University Breakfast held in conjunction with UNM's Homecoming festivities on October 7, 2007.

Entering the Athletic Hall of Honor

Congratulations to this year's Athletic Hall of Honor inductees, who represent excellence in inter-collegiate sports. This year's inductees include Greg Brown (men's basketball 1993-94), Tim Garcia (men's tennis 1974-76), Maria Gurreri (volleyball 1987-90), Mark Johnson (baseball 1965-67), Jamie Koch (football 1956-58) and Pauline Manser (volleyball 1988-91). These hard-playing individuals will be recognized on September 6 at the UNM Alumni Lettermen's Association's annual awards ceremony. The group also proudly awarded 19 scholarships this year.
