DC Reception Honors New Mexico Congressional Delegation
This year's Capital Hill reception honoring the New Mexico Congressional delegation reception was held in Washington, DC on February 27. UNM President David Schmidly and the UNM Alumni Association hosted the reception for the Congressional delegation and associates of the university.
Approximately 150 guests attended. From the delegation were US Senators Jeff Bingaman and Pete Domenici, '54 BSED, and US Representatives Tom Udall, '77 JD, and Heather Wilson. In addition, US Representative Jerry McNerney,'73 BS, '75 MA, '81 PhD, a California Lobo, attended. Senator Domenici and his wife, Nancy, were honored for their years of service to the state and country.
Parent Plans
In a move that will grant parents a role in university governance, the Board of Regents recently recognized the new UNM Parent Association. UNM's newest association empowers families to play a supportive role in higher education, promotes initiatives to increase student success and provides a forum for parent and student networking.
Award Winners
At a February dinner, four distinguished UNM alumni and professors—pioneers in government, teaching, medicine, and music—were honored with Alumni Association Zimmerman, Rodey, Fergusson, and Faculty awards.
Aluminaria Awards
The UNM Aluminaria Award celebrates UNM alumni who make the world a better, brighter place. Their acts may be small but they are inspirational. We take pride in these alumni and want to thank them—the Aluminarios who make life shine.
