Howl Back

Howl Back on the questions below, and we'll enter your name in a drawing for a UNM Alumni Association picnic flatware set to show your Lobo Pride wherever you go.

Congratulations to Carol (McGlothlin) Cofer, '51, of Austin, Texas who won a Lobo thermal travel mug and a nylon knapsack for letting us know which UNM class she'd like to take again—English lit with Dr. Crowell. Carol and her husband live in a Life Care Community that they love. She plays tennis in age division tournaments in Texas and also on the national level.

More Presidential Visits

We asked you to tell us about other Presidential and candidate visits to UNM we might have missed in last issue's photo article. Thanks for your additions and corrections!

Subject: Richard Nixon
I went to UNM for 4 years and graduated in 1964. I remember Nixon being in Albuquerque, New Mexico, prior to the election. I stood with lots of others to see him in the motorcade.
—Mary Jane Peterson, '64 BAED, Boerne, Texas

Subject: Barry Goldwater
In your listing of presidential candidates who visited the campus of UNM, you conveniently overlooked the late Senator Barry Goldwater who made a campaign stop at University stadium.
—Phil Keen, '65 BS, '69 MD, Phoenix, Arizona

Subject: Dwight Eisenhower
Your HOWLER photo list of UNM visiting Presidents and Presidential candidates did not include Presidential candidate Eisenhower's visit and speech at Zimmerman Field in l952.
—Al Barela, '58 BAA, '59 MA, San Jose, California

Subject: Re: Eisenhower's Birthplace
Read with interest your article in "the Howler" regarding President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Although he lived in Abilene, Kansas for many years, he was born in Denison, Texas. His birthplace here in Denison is a Texas State Historical Site open to the public year-round. We would encourage you to make your readers aware of this fact so that the history of our great leaders is always portrayed correctly.
—Anna H. McKinney, Denison Area Chamber of Commerce, Denison Conventions & Visitors Bureau
