What do nearly 2,500 staff members here on campus have in common? They belong to the community of people who have the dual distinction of being alumni and serving their alma mater. Campus alumni were invited to a holiday party on December 1 at the Alumni Center-Hodgin Hall to recognize their commitment to UNM. Attendees brought kids’ hats, scarves and gloves to be donated to PB&J Family Services, which serves needy New Mexico families. Winter graduation takes place the evening of Friday, December 15. Over 2,360 students will march in the ceremony at the Pit and be recognized as graduates and alumni of the University of New Mexico. UNM Acting President Harris will preside over the occasion. As well, convocation ceremonies will be held for individual schools, colleges, and/or departments to honor their graduates. All December graduates are invited to attend a reception in their honor hosted by Acting President Harris and the Alumni Association on the south concourse of the Pit following the graduation ceremony. Young Alumni will also celebrate their newest members on December 14 at a Wine and Cheese Social at the Alumni Center-Hodgin Hall.
Inaugural New Mexico Bowl The inaugural New Mexico Bowl football game will be held at University Stadium on December 23. The game will match a team from the Mountain West Conference against a team from the Western Athletic Conference and be televised by ESPN. Watch the Lobos best the San Jose State Spartans. Before the game, cheer the team on at a Lobo Tailgate from 12-2 in the Alumni/Lobo Club tent (in the tailgate lot NE of the stadium)! In their regular-season finale, UNM became bowl eligible by beating San Diego State 41-14 at University Stadium on November 25. The Lobos are now 6-6, 4-4 MWC going into the contest.

Chapter Events Around the Country Connect with old friends at holiday parties, and look ahead for upcoming Lobo Days. Upcoming events include “Hockey Mania” on January 5, when the Young Alumni will travel to the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho to see the New Mexico Scorpions play the Amarillo Gorillas. “How Will You Spend Winter Break?” No one deserves a well-earned break more than our student Trailblazers, who volunteer their time for alumni, University, and community events. Send your additions to alumni@unm.edu. The University of New Mexico celebrated “There’s No Place Like Home!” for its 81st Homecoming, October 2-7. Flying witches—good and bad—scarecrows, lions, tin men, flying monkeys and gingham-dressed Dorothy characters, including Lobo Lucy, descended upon the UNM campus for a fun-filled week of celebrations. Continuing Education at UNM: Continuing Education at UNM announces the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute designed to offer university-level, daytime courses to adults 50 years of age and older. The Osher Foundation is a grant-based program that has proven to be successful with major universities nationwide. There are no admissions, no grades, and no tests. An annual membership fee allows students to choose from a diverse set of thought-provoking courses taught year-round by current and emeritus University of New Mexico faculty members and renowned experts from the local community. Capping up a stellar season on the field, the University of New Mexico men's soccer team ended its season with a 3-1 loss at 13th-seeded Cal in the second round of the 2006 NCAA Tournament on November 15. New Mexico advanced to the second round for the third year in a row and the fifth time in the last six seasons, ending its season with a 14-4-3 record. The women’s soccer team finished the 2006 season with an 8-7-5 overall mark and had its first consecutive winning season since joining the MWC in 1999. Junior midfielder Terryn Granados was named to the ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic all-District VI first-team. Winter Baseball? The New Mexico baseball program is putting on three clinics this winter. A youth camp for ages 6-12 is set for December 18 while a hitter's camp and a pitching and catching camp are scheduled for December 19 and 20, respectively.
