Fallout Frenzy

Students in the 1950s took Cold War comfort knowing there were numerous fallout shelters on the UNM campus. The basements of Mesa Vista dormitory, the Student Union Building, Zimmerman Library, and Casteter (biology), Clark (chemistry), and Northrup (geology) Halls were prepared to hold students safe in the event of a nuclear weapon explosion. The shelters were equipped with cots as well as canned water and food.
