January/February 2004
Welcome to The Howler
A bi-monthly e-newsletter for UNM alumni and friends,
dedicated to building friends for life with news, resources, and ways
to stay connected.
 |
Studying
by the Duck Pond is as traditional as green chile for UNM students.
We're hoping reading The Howler
will become equally as traditional for UNM alumni. |

unlikely place: the high deserts of Afghanistan.
SAAP Students & Alums Getting New
Home
There's a sweet reward
coming for alums and students of UNM's School of Architecture and Planning
(SAAP) who have long made do with inadequate space—and shall we
say?—less than aesthetically pleasing digs. The University plans
to break ground for the new George Clayton Pearl School of Architecture
and Planning building this fall.
The Howler is a Hit!
Thanks to all who took time to answer our survey
about how you like the new Howler eNewsletter.
The results are in—over 90 percent of respondents said they enjoy
reading The Howler; that it keeps them up to date on events,
resources and campus happenings; and is about the right length! We received
some nice compliments on how easy it is to read online and that you enjoy
hearing what's happening on campus. Please let us know if you have suggestions
for how we can make The Howler more valuable to you.

Lobos Basketball Teams Ready for Tough
Competition
The 2003-04 basketball teams face tough competition
from their Mountain West Conference opponents. Whether you're near or
far, join in cheering on the team.
The women's team, led by Head Coach Don Flanagan,
is hot to repeat last year's first-ever NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance
and first MWC Tournament title and first conference championship since
1998. As of mid-January, they are well on their way with a WIN-LOSS mark.
Men's Head Coach Ritchie McKay is building on last
season's successes with six returning lettermen, nine new faces and a
tough offensive strategy. As of mid-January, the Lobos have racked up
a hard fought WIN-LOSS record.
Explore the World! UNM Education and
Travel Program
Make 2004 the year you travel the world with
fellow Alums. Explore the treasures of Costa Rica, enjoy a luxury adventure
to Prague and Budapest, and take part in an unforgettable educational
experience on the Italian Rivera! All this and special prices
for Alums.
"Dinner for 12 Strangers"
Builds Lobo Community
What happens when 12 strangers come together
for dinner? A new program organized by the UNM Alumni Association brings
12 students, faculty, and Alums together for an evening of conversation
and great food. The result is a unique opportunity to build new friendships
with UNM as a common bond. Contact coordinator Sue
MacEachen to learn more.
