Lobos for Legislation—Do Your
Part
Want to keep a New Year’s resolution
that will really make a difference? Help us make sure that your elected
representatives know how much UNM and higher education means to you. Share
your story, your passion, and your concern with New Mexico state legislators
and leaders. Get involved with Lobos for Legislation.

At last year’s Washington,
D.C. reception to honor the New Mexico Congressional delegation,
President Caldera (right) joined UNM Regent
Mel Eaves, U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman, Dean Joseph Cecchi ,
and nearly 250 New Mexicans. The UNM
Alumni Association hosted the event, and has planned a follow-up
event this spring. |
This grassroots legislative
advocacy network of more than 400 UNM alumni promotes the University
by forging strong relationships with state lawmakers. Lobos for Legislation
provide alums with information, training, and support to help ensure
higher education is a legislative |
priority in New Mexico. See our 2005 Legislative
Priorities below for what we’re focusing on this year.
There are lots of ways you can positively affect
the future of higher education in New Mexico—with calls, letters,
and hands-on advocacy. We’d love to see you at the Roundhouse on
February 3 in Santa Fe, or on February 17 in Washington, D.C. for the
NM Delegation reception. Please contact us for more information and to
reserve your space.

Who’s Your Mummy? UNM
Graduate Students Know
Two University of New
Mexico graduate students are being seen worldwide as they travel to exotic
destinations for “Mummy
Autopsy,” a new Discovery Channel television series that started
December 7. The show's creators say their aim is to “put flesh on
the bones” and to recreate the lives of the long dead.
James
Murrell and Ken
Nystrom are part of a five-member team of mummy investigators who
travel across continents to conduct research on mummies, some of which
have lain forgotten for centuries. The 13-part, one-hour series tracks
mummy experts as they investigate ancient findings.
