May/June 2004
Welcome to The Howler
A bi-monthly e-newsletter for UNM alumni and friends, dedicated to building friends for life with news, resources, and ways to stay connected.

New Residents: Along with her granddaughter—who posed for the sculpture on the left—sculptor Betty Sabo, class of 1951, watches the installment of her work along the mall between Popejoy Hall and the SUB.

On behalf of the entire UNM alumni community, we’d like to extend our congratulations and a warm welcome to new graduates who are receiving The Howler for the first time. In your honor, this issue features graduation details, a look at the story behind those mortarboards, and a review of the many benefits available to alumni.

UNM Commencement—May 15
UNM Commencement will be held this year at 9 a.m. on May 15 in the Pit. Approximately 1,000 students will participate in the ceremony, representing approximately 2,962 total graduates. The commencement exercises in the Pit will honor all graduates. In the afternoon, convocations will be held in individual schools, colleges, and departments.

That afternoon, please join us for a reception honoring new graduates and their families on the lawn at the President's House from 1-3 p.m. The reception is proudly sponsored by the Alumni Association and President and Mrs. Caldera.
