Reception in Washington, D.C.
By Mary Conrad

The Hart Senate Office Building in Washington DC was the venue for a gathering of approximately 250 New Mexicans on March 10. Together with UNM President Louis Caldera, the UNM Alumni Association sponsored a reception honoring the New Mexico Congressional delegation.

Congressional members received Jemez Pueblo pots with the UNM emblem that had been specially commissioned by the Association. US Senator Jeff Bingaman and the wife of US Rep. Tom Udall attended, along with staff members of the other New Mexico offices.
More than 200 Washington DC area alumni enjoyed the opportunity to visit the Capitol. A large delegation from UNM made the trip to Washington as well, including UNM President Caldera, five UNM Regents, all but one vice president, and numerous deans. Alumni Association representatives included the Association's president and his wife, Steve and Jane Bacchus, executive director Karen Abraham, and associate director Charlene Chavez. Senator Bingaman congratulated the staff on the event's success.
