Jennifer
and Sue greeted the students, faculty, and alumni with decorative
beads. The pair served up some home cooked Cajun fare including
jambalaya, shrimp Creole, and red beans, served over beds
of rice. A traditional King’s Cake—with the requisite
plastic baby hidden inside—topped off the meal. Chemistry
professor Bob Paine found the
baby in his piece of cake; according to custom, Bob will have
to supply the King’s Cake next Mardi Gras.
Mary Broemel, ’77, ’85,
loved the varying opinions expressed. Math
professor Michael Buchner found
the dinner “excellent and the company delightful.”
UNM
Varsity soccer player Jonathan Weaver,
of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was literally a great sport trying the
Cajun fare, even though he’s not a seafood fan.
All in all, everyone had a great time
and appreciated the opportunity to make new friends. Said
Bob Paine, “Bonnie and I enjoyed the meal and conversation.
This is a good idea and I wish you luck with future events.”
Two more dinners have been planned,
