I’ve had the rare opportunity to be associated with the university for almost 50 years, and am thankful for being able to continue that relationship as president of the Alumni Association. I am especially thankful to be involved at this time, working together with countless alumni nationwide and with the new administration under President Caldera to take the university to even greater heights. Of course, underlying everything is my thankfulness for my wonderful wife, Brookes, whose support I value most of all.

My good fortune of working within this university environment has enriched each of these five L’s.

• my wonderful husband, Aaron Kugler, who I met at UNM, and the baby boy we’re expecting on New Year's Day.
• working at UNM. It is great to be back at the place that has so much to do with the person I am today. I love interacting with students on a daily basis and remembering what it was like to be in their shoes, but also seeing how much things have changed for the better!
• New Mexican food, especially homemade beans, tortillas & green chile!
• my freedom, my health, my friends and family, and just the chance to live this thing called life.
