Mike Carroll
UNM Vice President for Advancement
I am very thankful for my wonderful family—and thankful for us to
now be a part of UNM. I am also thankful for the members of our armed
services who are sacrificing spending this holiday with their families,
so that we might be able to spend it with ours.
Coleman
Travelstead
President, UNM Alumni Association
I’ve had the rare opportunity to be associated with the university for
almost 50 years, and am thankful for being able to continue that relationship
as president of the Alumni Association. I am especially thankful to be involved
at this time, working together with countless alumni nationwide and with the
new administration under President Caldera to take the university to even greater
heights. Of course, underlying everything is my thankfulness for my wonderful
wife, Brookes, whose support I value most of all.

Karen Abraham
Executive Director, UNM Alumni Association
I am thankful for being blessed with the five L's of life: Love from
family and friends which makes all things possible; Laughter which puts
things in perspective; Learning which helps one to understand, grow, and
unfold the wonderment of life and self; Living which affords one an opportunity
to put an exclamation mark at the end of each day; and finally the framework,
because the first four L's are in place, to leave a Legacy and make one's
blessings count in an expanded way. My good fortune of working within
this university environment has enriched each of these five L’s.
Richard Santos
Interim Associate Dean for Research, College of Arts and Sciences
Associate Professor, Economics
I am grateful to work at a university that promotes the development and
value of its students, staff, and faculty. My family and I are thankful
to be members of this great community. We thank the citizens of New Mexico
and other supporters of UNM for supporting the mission of the university.
Mary
Power
Professor, English
I am thankful that UNM welcomed the Joyce Exhibit loaned to us by the Foreign
Affairs Department of the Irish Government and the Lecture Series, including
a lecture by Dean Dasenbrock on Joyce and Science and one by Kery Ames from
Yale on Joyce and Homer: Reconciling the Adulterous Molly Bloom with the
Faithful Penelope.
Kathy
Guimond
UNM Chief of Police
I am grateful for a staff that is ready to go the extra mile to make me
look good… And for support from senior level administration to keep
campus safe. I couldn’t do it without them. That combination makes
me the luckiest person on campus.
Louis Caldera
President, The University of New Mexico
I am grateful for my family, faith, and country, and for the prayers, goodwill,
and support of those I am privileged to work with and to serve.
Jason
C. Bousliman, ’98 BA, ’01 JD
Attorney, Modrall, Sperling, Roehl, Harris & Sisk
I am thankful that I don't have to listen to another political ad for at least
another year, thankful that holiday decorations were put up in stores before
Halloween so I could begin my shopping even earlier, but most of all and with
all sincerity I am most thankful for my beautiful and brilliant seven-month-old
son, Collis.
Helen
Dorado-Gray, ’00 BA
Office of US Senator Jeff Bingaman
I am thankful for my wonderful family, and for my extraordinary friends; for
all of the people who have nurtured, encouraged and supported me. I am thankful
for every time that I have succeeded at something; and, for every time that
I fail, I am thankful for the opportunity to learn, and do better next time.
I am thankful for second chances. Of course, I am thankful for the ability to
work, to think, to love, and to laugh (especially at myself.)
Marion
Fleck, ’37 BS, ’70 PhD
Lifetime Alumni Association Board Member
I have a full heart, and feel good about so many things. I am thankful for
family, friends. and the marvelous life I have been fortunate to live. I am
thankful to live in America where all things are possible, and there is no
limit to what people can do with their lives. I am thankful for all UNM has
meant to me. I have been to schools on both coasts, and I am glad I began
my education at UNM. It is and has been an intricate part of my life.
Angie
Wilcox, ’03 BAED
Coordinator, Student Life
Stanford Graduate School of Business
I am immensely thankful for the opportunities I have been given. There are so
many people in this world who are living unsatisfying, unhappy, or even unhealthy
lives, simply because they haven't had the chance to strive for better. Through
the unwavering support and encouragement of my family and friends, I have been
able to reach for my dreams. I feel so lucky to be surrounded by people who
fill my life with love, laughter, and hope for tomorrow.
Kristle Kugler, ’99 BA
UNM Student Activities Center
I am thankful for...
• my wonderful husband, Aaron Kugler, who I met at UNM, and the baby
boy we’re expecting on New Year's Day.
• working at UNM. It is great to be back at the place that has so
much to do with the person I am today. I love interacting with students
on a daily basis and remembering what it was like to be in their shoes,
but also seeing how much things have changed for the better!
• New Mexican food, especially homemade beans, tortillas & green
chile!
• my freedom, my health, my friends and family, and just the chance
to live this thing called life.
