2003-04 SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS

Lobo athletes made their fans proud with the following achievements:

• A 3.02 combined GPA during the 2004 spring semester, the fourth straight semester the GPA has been at 3.02 or higher
  
  
• Skiing won the school’s first national championship
  
  
• Sean Murray (baseball) was named the MWC Male Student-Athlete of the Year
  
  
• Eighteen Lobos received All-America recognition for their athletic achievement while 16 were named Academic All-America
  
  
• Football made consecutive bowl game appearances for the first time since 1947...the Lobos had three All-Americans in RB DonTrell Moore, OG Claude Terrell and OG Robert Turner (freshman)
  
  
• Women’s basketball tied for the MWC regular-season title and won the MWC Tournament for the second straight year...UNM played in the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year
  
  
• Women’s basketball finished 4th in the nation in attendance (11,865) while the Lobo men placed 15th (14,679)
  
  
• Women’s tennis players Maja Kovacek and Sandy Lukowski were named All-America after advancing to the semifinals at the NCAA Doubles Championship
  
  
• Divan Coetzee (men’s tennis) was named MWC Player of the Year and became the first Lobo to qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship three straight years...Coetzee attained his master’s degree in just four years
  
  
• Alan Dils (men’s tennis) and Kathy Kolankiewicz (women’s tennis) were named MWC Coach of the Year...men’s and women’s tennis both won the MWC regular-season titles while the men also took the conference tournament championship
  
  
• Men’s golfer Spencer Levin finished in a tie for 13th (with former Lobo Tim Herron) at the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, the best finish by an amateur since 1971...Levin had his first career hole-in-one in the first round
  
  
• Matt Gonzales (outdoor track) captured All-America honors for the second straight year in the 10,000 meters
  
  
• Katie Hnida became the first woman to score in an NCAA Div. I-A football game when she made two extra points against Texas State-San Marcos
