We are currently accepting nominations for the following awards. Recipients will be honored at the All University Breakfast during Homecoming 2018. Nomination deadline is Monday, May 21, 2018. Nominations will be considered for two years from the date submitted. Thank you for your nominations!

  • Zia Award: Honors New Mexico residents with a UNM degree who have distinguished themselves in any one or more of the following categories: philanthropic endeavors, public office, service to the University, community and volunteer activities, and/or business professional fields, or educational fields. Read about all of our Zia Award Recipients!
  • Lobo Award: Presented to a UNM alumnus/a who has given outstanding personal service to the University or whose career achievement reflects credit on the university.
  • Inspirational Young Alumnus Award: Recognizes significant contributions by an individual, whether through professional achievement or community service. Recipients demonstrate a commitment to excellence in post-academic life and an ongoing commitment to professional work, research, multicultural relations and/or volunteerism, while being recognized as an emerging leader. Winter Award Nomination Deadline: Friday, Nov. 10, 2017
Presented at our Winter Awards Dinner on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018

  • James F. Zimmerman Award: Given to an alumnus of The University of New Mexico who has made a significant contribution which has brought fame and honor to The University of New Mexico or to the State of New Mexico.
  • Bernard S. Rodey Award: Recognizes those whose leadership efforts have contributed significantly to the field of education. The recipient may or may not be an alum of the University.
  • Erna S. Fergusson Award: Recognizes exceptional accomplishments and/or commitment or distinguished service to The University of New Mexico. The recipient may or may not be an alum of the University. Formerly named the Award of Distinction.

  • Aluminaria Award: Nomination is ongoing. Celebrates UNM alumni who make the world a better, brighter place – individuals who go out of their way to help others. Their acts may be small but they are inspirational. We take pride in these alumni and want to thank them — the Aluminarias who make life shine. Recipients receive notification of their selection along with an UNM Aluminaria pin in the mail.

    Criteria: This award honors alumni who have dedicated their lives to making the world a better place through community service, excellence in the workplace and/or contributions to society above and beyond what is required. By becoming silent "heroes" these alumni heighten the profile of UNM, inspiring others to follow in their path. Objective: To show UNM Alumni our appreciation for everything they do, to instill pride in UNM alumni about their degree and to raise awareness in the community about what UNM alumni are accomplishing.

Faculty Awards

Faculty Recognition Nomination Deadline: Friday, Nov. 10, 2017
Presented at our Winter Awards Dinner on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018

  • Faculty Teaching Award: Recognizes outstanding teaching and service to students. The recipient is a faculty member currently employed full-time in any school or college of the University.

  • Citizenship Award: Given to a select number of seniors who have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills and have provided continued service to the University and the community, this award recognizes endeavor, helpfulness, good spirit, and cooperation.
  • Trailblazer Award: The Outstanding Trailblazer of the Year recognition is determined solely by the recipient's peers.

Legislative Awards

Legislative Nomination Deadline: April 2018
Presented at the Alumni Association's Volunteer Thank You Reception each June. For more information on Legislative Awards, contact Kim Feldman at borzoi@unm.edu or at 505-277-5808.

  • The Higher Education Distinguished Legislator Award: Recognizes a New Mexico state legislator who has made an extraordinary and exemplary contribution to higher education at The University of New Mexico during the immediate past legislative session. The recipient receives a $500 scholarship in the legislator's name to be awarded to a student from the legislator's district. The chosen legislator will be involved in the selection process of the scholarship recipient.
  • The Legislative Service Award: Recognizes state legislators who have made a difference to the lives of all New Mexicans, through 20 years of dedicated public service. The recipient receives one "UNM brick" for personal display and another to be placed in the Hodgin Hall walkway on the UNM campus.

Scholarship Applications Deadline: Thursday, March 8, 2018, 5 p.m. MST

  • Scholarships: Applications are accepted once a year. Thanks to the gifts from alumni, friends, and chapters, the UNM Alumni Association assists top UNM students with their academic expenses. The scholarships are available to full-time undergraduate students (enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours) and graduate students (enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours).
