Andy Boyens, former Lobo defender from Dunedin, New Zealand, represented his home country at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. After competing internationally since May 2007, Boyens was invited to join New Zealand in their journey to the top of the largest sporting tournament in the world.
Boyens has played more than 15 international games in his career. He competed in all of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in 2007. He also played on New Zealand’s team in the qualifiers for the Athens Olympics.
Boyens completed three successful seasons at the University of New Mexico (2004-2006) before being drafted by Toronto FC. He scored 11 goals and six assists in his career at UNM. He was a much decorated Lobo with both academic and athletic honors including first-team All American in 2006 and NSCAA Scholar Athlete in 2005.
