A Note from the Alumni Relations Office
Posted: March 23, 2020
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and following guidelines set forth by The University of New Mexico, the Alumni Relations Office staff will be operating remotely until further notice. The safety of our staff, their loved ones, and the University community is of the utmost importance during this time.
Regarding small gatherings in Hodgin Hall and the Alumni Chapel, the staff is working closely with UNM Facilities Management to maintain the safest environment possible for every group of five or less people. Rooms and all “touch points” are being sanitized both before and after meetings and we will continually review Hodgin Hall events, should any changes be required.
Event organizers using Hodgin Hall and Alumni Chapel are required to work closely with the University and the Alumni Association on all events, and events with more than five people are not permitted at this time. We will utilize the UNM Event Registration on the University’s Coronavirus (COVID-19) website, which is also a great resource on the evolving status of the virus in New Mexico and abroad, so please be sure to review it.
As you know, the response to COVID-19 is rapidly evolving, and the current guidelines may be subject to change.
We thank you for your patience and understanding, and encourage you to visit UNM’s dedicated COVID-19 website for more information about how the University is responding to the pandemic.
A Message from the UNM Alumni President:
On behalf of the UNM Alumni Association and the staff at the Alumni Relations Office, I wanted to communicate with the Board, Committee Chairs and Members, and Chapter leaders regarding our immediate response to the increased concern about COVID-19 (novel coronavirus). The Alumni Association supports The University of New Mexico and strives to promote and maintain a safe and healthy environment for all.
The Alumni Association will carefully review scheduled and upcoming events as needed. We will work with Chapter leaders to ensure we follow UNM and NM restrictions and guidelines as well as those implemented in your respective states. We have made the decision to postpone the UNM Young Alumni event scheduled for March 19, in response to the University’s announcement that all events through April 30, 2020, should be cancelled. We are looking carefully at the scheduled committee meetings between now and the end of April, and will be encouraging those groups to postpone their meeting temporarily, or if necessary, conduct the meetings via zoom. The alumni staff can manage those logistics for you. We will keep everyone informed of changes to future events, including Commencement and other board, alumni and chapter activities in May.
Regarding smaller events and meetings in Hodgin Hall and the Alumni Chapel, the staff is working closely with UNM Facilities Management to maintain the safest environment possible for every group of five people or less. Rooms and all “touch points” are being sanitized both before and after meetings and we will continually review Hodgin Hall events, should any changes be required.
Please visit the University's COVID-19 information page for more information, and do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Thank you and Go Lobos!
