Doctor, Air Force Captain, Green Chile Fanatic
by Mary Conrad
2012 has been a busy year for Jennifer Stone (BS ’07): On May 20, she will graduate from Touro University-Nevada with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. Seven days later, she’ll get married to her UNM sweetheart, David Salguero (BA ’07), in Las Vegas, Nevada. Putting off a honeymoon for the time being, the newlyweds plan to move to Florida so Jennifer can complete a residency in family medicine at Eglin Air Force Base.
Jennifer’s father was a United States Air Force officer, and the family moved to several different locations during Jennifer’s childhood, but she calls New Mexico home. She was a cheerleader during her four years at UNM and received a varsity letter for that sport. “It was awesome,” she recalls. “Some of the best years of my life were as a cheerleader. We competed at nationals and I made lifelong friends.”
A biology major with a minor in chemistry, she was also a Presidential Scholar for four years, an honor student, and an Air Force ROTC cadet; she graduated cum laude. “It was a great place to go,” she says of UNM. “The teachers were great, especially in the smaller upper-level classes. They got me ready for medical school.”
“I love everything about New Mexico,” she continues. “Don’t get me started on the food. I ship green chile here every couple of weeks. There’s never a time when there isn’t green chile in my freezer. New Mexico is home to me and always will be.”
